This year, Ms. Castellini was put in charge of the school’s One Act Play. Her selection? An episode from “The Twilight Zone”. The episode, entitled “The Masks” (season 5, episode 25), is about an older gentleman named Jason Foster (the name was switched to Greta for the production). Jason (Greta) is an older man who is hinted to have hardened arteries in his heart and will be dying soon. The episode takes place in New Orleans during the Mardi Gras celebrations in the old mansion that Jason owns. Here, we meet Jason’s cruel family members Emily and Wilfred Harper, Wilfred Jr., and Paula (the name was also changed for the production). The family had come to “visit” the dying old man from Boston and were very willing to collect their inheritance from him. Things don’t go as planned (nor does anything in the Twilight Zone) for the family when Jason does his final deed.

The play itself is limited to 27 minutes due to One Act regulations and Ms. C enjoys to use as little props as possible. Almost all of the props, costumes, and “set pieces” are second hand or bought from Goodwill or Amazon with Ms. C’s own money. I was lucky enough to be chosen to be a part of the marvelous production, along with my fellow (extremely talented) cast-mates. I play the role of Greta Foster and it is an incredible experience to work with talented and amazing people. We laugh, we joke, and yes, we do mess around sometimes, but it’s always fun (although sometimes tech can be frustrating). We try our best to remember our lines and we help each other wherever we can. There is pressure with the upcoming competition, but we are going to do our best and make it to state!

The play for friends and family (plus students) is on January 20th at 1:00pm in the South Ridge forum. Admission is free and we ask that you turn off cell phones and mobile devices. They can be quite distracting for not only the actors, but the others in the audience who are trying to enjoy the show. Please feel free to come and enjoy the show!
